Dentures

Despite the many advances in the dental field in recent years, tooth loss is still a serious problem. It is estimated that over 60% of adults in the United States will have lost a tooth due to an accident, tooth decay, gum disease or any number of other causes. Around one in four people between the ages of 65 and 75 have lost all of their teeth. Luckily, there are several options available to you if you have lost teeth. One of the most versatile and affordable options is a set of removable dentures.

Standard Full Dentures

Full dentures replace a full set of upper or lower teeth. This not only makes it easier to eat and talk but also improves your appearance by filling out your face and putting teeth back into your smile. They are held in place with suction or adhesive and are made of a pliable material that makes suction easy. This flexibility also requires regular adjustment by your dentist to make sure it fits properly. Standard full dentures are susceptible to shrinkage or warping, which leads to the prosthetic not fitting properly and can ultimately cause the jawbone to atrophy.

Partial Dentures

If you are only missing one or even a few teeth, a partial denture is a good solution. Partial dentures are a single-piece fitting that is supported by the surrounding teeth and gums. Because of this, they are more secure than a standard denture and are usually more comfortable.

Cosmetic Dentures

Cosmetic dentures are designed to restore a natural appearance to a person, disguising the fact that there are false teeth at all. Unlike standard dentures that can warp and shrink over time, cosmetic dentures are made from an acrylic base. This allows the denture to hold its shape and makes it appear more realistic.

IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES

Dental implants can also be used to help make cosmetic dentures achieve a more natural appearance. The implants allow the dentures to be anchored in place, either by resting or snapping onto the implant. Dentures held in this manner are more secure and stable, making them more comfortable to wear.

Losing teeth and expensive treatment options should not keep you from enjoying a healthy and happy lifestyle. Dentures are an excellent course of treatment for many people.
